The SUPERHERO 5k run/walk is about community, fitness, and purpose. It raises awareness and funds for local families impacted by the emotional and financial hardships of a pediatric cancer diagnosis.
Since it's inception in 2013, the SUPERHERO 5k has generated nearly $45,000 with superheroes aged 0-80 coming together to honor regular kids fighting extraordinary battles.
The event features a timed 5k run/walk and a one mile “Superhero-In-Training” course. Registrants will also enjoy music, food, face painting, an obstacle course courtesy of Play.Fit.Fun, visits from local law enforcement, therapy animals, and other noteworthy guests.
General Information
The race will begin and end in Cook Park, located at 17005 Southwest 92nd Avenue in Tigard near Shelter 2. Look for signage to direct you to the SUPERHERO 5k race area.
The route will loop through Durham City Park on mostly paved paths and shaded forest rails along the Tualatin River. Each mile will be indicated with a sign. Directional signs and volunteers will be at all intersections directing you as required.

Race day packet pick-up will begin at 7:30 am at Cook Park in Shelter 2. New registrants will be accessed an on-site registration fee of $5, so sign up early.
Parking & Restrooms
There is ample parking in Cook Park. Additional parking is available up the hill at Tigard High School.
There are ample flush toilet facilities in the park near the start/finish area. There will not be restrooms on the course.
The Run
If the timing option is selected, the run will be timed with a disposable timing chip attached the the bib number. As you cross the finish line, a chip in the bib number will record your time.
Please ensure the following in order to receive an accurate time.
- Race bib is clearly visible on the front of the torso
- Race bib is not covered (jackets, runner belts, water bottles, etc.)
The 5k run and walk will be a combined event this year and will start promptly at 8:30 am. Th kid's 1-mile loop will start at 9:30 am.
The T’s
SUPERHERO 5k t-shirts will be available as an a la carte transaction for this year's event. T-shirt availability for registrations received after July 1, 2017 will not be guaranteed.
Prizes & Awards
We will have two types of awards: 5k race awards and costume contest awards.
Race awards will be based on age and gender and awarded based on time to the top finishers in each age group as follows:
- 10 & under
- 11-19
- 20-29
- 30-39
- 40-49
- 50-59
- 60-69
- 70+
We will also have the following costume contest award categories:
- Best Original Superhero
- Biggest Group
- Best Villain
- Best Duo
Water Stations
There will be volunteer-staffed water stations out on the course and at the finish line.
